Your Petitioners do not share the advantages of other Government servants as to the rate at which they can remit money to India and are now only able to obtain about 133 Rupees for every $100,

3.-

Your Petitioners believe that the fact that the cost of living in this Colony has largely increased is well recognised and respectfully submit that although nominal promotion has been granted since the year 1894 the position of the Assistant Guards and Jardars of Victoria Gaol is very much less favourable now than that of the Gaol Guards in the year 1894.

Your Petitioners therefore humbly pray

That Your Excellency may be graciously pleased to grant to them an increase of pay to compensate for the low rate of exchange or that Your Petitioners may enjoy the same privileges with regard to remitting a portion of their pay to India as do the Indian Members of the Police Force in this Colony.

And Your Petitioners will ever pray,

Dated this 14th day of March, 1902.
